Early on March 14, I woke to experience the lunar eclipse. Stepping into the tropical darkness outside my Florida home, I was surprised by the mysterious absence of frog song. Silence stilled the wild world as Earth’s shadow spread across the moon. Under this muted glow, I walked my backyard labyrinth.

At first, I felt groundless, as the black lawn mirrored the night sky. The relentless turns of the twisting path disoriented me. When I veered into the center of the labyrinth, the eclipse reached totality. Reeling in the dark night, I instinctively lifted my eyes for support. The moon’s familiar face, now radiant red, held my gaze, steadying me like the fixed point of a spinning dancer.

In the deep silence, I heard my heartbeat in my chest—vulnerable, tender, open. The pulsing rhythm seemed to resonate in widening circles outward from the labyrinth’s center, across the distance, into outer space until it touched the great heart above, the Blood Moon. Encouraged by this cosmic connection, I found my footing anew. I felt grounded, Earthed, in the expanding whole, the fathomless depths of infinite Love. Contemplating the cosmos restored my center of gravity.

A Conscious Embodiment Practice

for Nurturing Your Light

  • Find a quiet, comfortable place outdoors that helps you to feel grounded.

  • Thank this place for supporting you.

  • Touch the Earth with your hands, feeling your deep connection.

  • As a blessing, you might also spread a picnic blanket or a yoga mat on the ground.

  • Thank the Earth for supporting you.

  • Lie down, and gently open your arms and legs, resting on the Earth.

  • Thank your body for supporting you.

  • Feel the ground holding your whole body.

  • Thank the ground for supporting you.

  • As you breathe, relax more deeply into the ground.

  • Thank the Ground of Being for supporting you.

  • Rise, renewed.
